Greenland Interannual Ice Mass Variations Detected by GRACE Time‐Variable Gravity
نویسندگان
چکیده
To better understand the impact of climate forcing on Greenland ice sheet (GrIS), we study GrIS mass variations interannual timescale as observed by satellite mission Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE). By employing method empirical orthogonal function) analysis, find: (a) That are significantly correlated with Pacific Decadal Oscillation, suggesting a connection to changes Icelandic Low (a permanent low-pressure system) related PDO; (b) An East-West Costal Dipole precipitation anomaly subjects North Atlantic Oscillation; (c) Certain contribution Multidecadal Oscillation in form temperature runoff anomalies.

Revisiting Greenland ice sheet mass loss observed by GRACE
[1] In this paper we discuss a new method for determining mass time series for 16 hydrological basins representing the Greenland system (GS) whereby we rely on Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission data. In the same analysis we also considered observed mass changes over Ellesmere Island, Baffin Island, Iceland, and Svalbard (EBIS). The summed contribution of the complete syste...
متن کاملIncreasing rates of ice mass loss from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets revealed by GRACE
[1] We use monthly measurements of time-variable gravity from the GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellite gravity mission to determine the ice mass-loss for the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets during the period between April 2002 and February 2009. We find that during this time period the mass loss of the ice sheets is not a constant, but accelerating with time, i.e., that ...
متن کاملGreenland mass balance from GRACE
[1] We use 22 monthly GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) gravity fields to estimate the linear trend in Greenland ice mass during 2002–2004. We recover a decrease in total ice mass of 82 ± 28 km of ice per year, consistent with estimates from other techniques. Our uncertainty estimate is dominated by the effects of GRACE measurement errors and errors in our post glacial rebound (PG...
متن کاملRecent Greenland ice mass loss by drainage system from satellite gravity observations.
Mass changes of the Greenland Ice Sheet resolved by drainage system regions were derived from a local mass concentration analysis of NASA-Deutsches Zentrum für Luftund Raumfahrt Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE mission) observations. From 2003 to 2005, the ice sheet lost 101 +/- 16 gigaton/year, with a gain of 54 gigaton/year above 2000 meters and a loss of 155 gigaton/year at low...
متن کاملShort term mass variability in Greenland, from GRACE
[1] We use twenty-two monthly GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) gravity fields to recover nonsecular mass change in Greenland. The results show large seasonal variability. We compare with modeled precipitation, evaporation, and runoff derived from ERA40 (the 40-year ECMWF Re-Analysis of the global atmosphere). The model’s seasonal amplitude is controlled by runoff and agrees reaso...
